SHIKARPUR: As the mercury has dropped, the demand for warm clothes, new as well as used ones, has increased considerably. Due to sudden change in the weather conditions, streets in the markets have flooded with make-shift roadside stalls displaying all kind of winter wears and accessories including sweaters, leather coats, socks, hats and woolen clothes are available at stall along the roadside on Station Road, Jumani Hall, Lakhi Dar, Shuhda Chowk, and near Railway crossing. All kind of wears and accessories including woolen hats, mufflers, pullovers, sweat shirts, gloves, and jackets can be seen hanging in front of shops. “Poor people buy winter clothes from here at cheap prices, while I have every kind of warm stuff in stock, most of them prefer to buy woolen sweaters and caps to protect themselves from cold,” Gul Hassan Pathan, a seller at a stall said. As there is a great demand for used warmth clothes among people belonging to lower and middle classes,a crowd of people, from both the classes can be seen bargaining with the roadside retailers. Another vendor Khurshid Ahmed said that since prices of new wears were out of the reach of poor and middle classes, they tend to buy used clothes available on stalls, where all the kind of warm clothes are available at appropriate rates. Similarly, the situation was well explained by Sikandar Siddiqui, a customer at a stall of used clothes, “we cannot afford the prices of new warmers and need to purchase second-hand pieces for the family because of our financial reasons, he said. Asadullah Khan Phulpoto, a 10th grade student said that instead of buying costly clothes one should rather buy used, branded clothes from stalls, which are appropriate and cheaper, but I can observe that prices are higher than the last year, he added.
