The ex-president was arrested over his alleged involvement in a money laundering case after his interim bail expired and the Islamabad High Court refused to extend it. He was arrested from his house in Islamabad’s F-8.
According to reports, the PPP has planned protests in all district headquarters, in which party workers and supporters will wear black armbands and show solidarity with the former president.
Karachiites said the PPP would not be made to bow down using such judicial verdicts, and added that the party believed that the leadership would prove their innocence since they were sinless.
“The people of Karachi respect the courts and the laws, but have the right to protest if there is a doubtful decision,” said a party supporter.
PPP supporters said the Pakistan People’s Party (PTI) was hiding its failures by targeting the opposition leaders, and added that the government had spoilt the system.
On the other hand, People’s Youth Wing Sindh has made preparations for today’s protest across the province, especially in Karachi. The protest in the city will be led by People’s Youth Organization Sindh President Javed Nayab Laghari, Masroor Rajper and Rashid Khaskheli.
According to details, the protesters will mainly stage demonstrations near the Karachi Press Club, after which they have planned to block Shahra-e-Faisal. However, party source told Daily Times that the protest would remain peaceful.
