ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital Administrator Dr Altaf Hussain on Saturday said nine bodies of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) plane crash victims had been handed over to their heirs.

Dr Hussain said that the deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) samples of PK-661 crash victims had been collected and efforts were being made for handing over the bodies to their family members. He said that 47 bodies had been shifted to the medical facility, while the victims’ family members were visiting the hospital to provide their DNA samples.

He said the DNA tests would be conducted after completion of the process to collect the DNA samples of the victims and their family members. He said besides PIMS hospital’s experts, technical assistance from other laboratories would also be sought to carry out proper identification of all the victims.

Dr Hussain said at least six days were required for the results of the DNA tests to come out, following which the government would ensure handing over of all bodies to their heirs. On the other hand, PIA’s Chief Executive Officer Bernd Hildenbrand visited Saddha Batolni village in the vicinity of Havelian, where the ATR-42 aircraft had crashed a few days ago.
