ISLAMABAD: Two maritime patrol vessels built in China for Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) were commissioned on Saturday in an impressive ceremony in Guangzhou, China.
Defence Secretary Zameerul Hasan Shah was the chief guest. The ceremony was also attended by the PMSA Director General (DG) Rear Admiral Jamil Akhtar and China Shipbuilding Trading Company Limited (CSTC) president. According to Defence Ministry spokesman, the defence secretary congratulated PMSA and CSTC for the successful completion of first two ships and expressed his satisfaction with the progress of project. He also applauded the efforts for meeting the highest quality standards in construction of these ships, almost four months ahead of the contract schedule.
Earlier, the PMSA DG highlighted the requirement of a stronger Maritime Security Agency in the overall security environment, especially in the wake of CPEC project. The construction of six maritime patrol ships was approved by ECNEC in December 2014. The construction of four ships commenced in November 2015 at China and last two ships are being built in Pakistan at Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works.
