Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday advised daughter Maryam Nawaz to attend the all parties conference (APC) called by the opposition. Maryam, along with husband Captain (r) Muhammad Safdar, and their grandmother met Nawaz Sharif for two hours at Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore.

“My heart cries out for the poor people who are dying due to the tsunami of inflation. Leader of the Opposition Shehbaz Sharif’s return will silence opponents who claimed he has fled the country,” he said during the meeting.

He stated that no relief had been provided to the people of the country even after taking huge loans from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The former prime minister expressed sadness over the martyrdom of military officers and youth in North Waziristan. Strict security arrangements had been made by blocking roads leading to the jail on the occasion.

After the meeting, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) vice-president Maryam Nawaz stated that Nawaz Sharif’s life was in danger in the absence of round-the-clock medical attention.

In a tweet, she said that Nawaz Sharif’s physicians were of the view that emergency medication prescribed by the doctors of the Punjab Institute of Cardiology could lead to a sharp drop in his blood pressure and even a stroke without the much-needed 24/7 observation he deserved.

Maryam said that her father was already on the maximum dosage, adding that, “round-the-clock monitoring is not possible in jail”. She said that ECG and fresh lab tests were also needed.

The PML-N supreme leader was sentenced to seven years in prison and was fined Rs 1.5 billion and $25 million in the Al-Azizia corruption reference by an accountability court on December 24, 2018. However, he was acquitted in another reference related to Flagship Investments.
