KPIC awaits completion

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Institute of Cardiology (KPIC) still waiting for its completion for the last more than ten years in KP as three governments completed its tenure during the project.

The project was started in Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) Government while Awami National Party coalition government also completed its tenure but both the consecutive governments failed to complete the project. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly floor Mufti Fazl-e-Ghafor of Jammat Ulala Islam (F) raised question that for the last tenyears two governments of MMA and ANP complete their terms while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf completed three years but the project was not completed.

He further added that in Rawalpindi and in Sindh the same project was completed in two years and start working, adding that PTI government declared health emergency in the province but nothing were on the ground. He informed that there were one unit Cardiovascular in Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar but that were not enough for the entire province but as well as from Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).

“A patients was waiting for operation for more than six month in LRH while his condition was so critical”, Mufti Ghafoor stated. The health experts said that from Cardiovascular disease around 200,000 people died each year in Pakistan while the ratio of Cardiovascular disease among youth were increasing day by day. When contacted Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Senior Health Minister Shahram Khan Tarkai said that the project was a federal funded project and many government had worked on it.

He added that in each teaching hospital of KP there was a cardiovascular ward which was providing treatment facilities to the patients, adding that the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology will be soon completed. Similarly in Khyber Teaching Hospital there were children ward in the hospital but because of the seasons diseases around four and five children were admitted on one bed.
