Firdous forwards Rs 2bn ‘defamation notice’ to Rana Sanaullah

Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan, through her legal team, served Rs2 billion defamation notice to Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Rana Sanaullah for issuing “false, malicious and defamatory statements” against her.

The notice served on May 26 said that Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan was considered an honest, upright and able politician. She remained MNA for ten years and served various ministries as minister for five years, it said. Right now, she is serving the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as special assistant to the prime minister. The notice said that Awan, who hails from a respected family, has been serving the masses for the last 20 years.

It said Rana Sanullah in his media talk had leveled baseless and fabricated allegations, which hurt her, besides damaging her reputation. Awan, through her notice, demanded an apology from the PML-N lawmaker and that it be published at the same space and broadcast must cover same time as the allegations were published and broadcast earlier.

She demanded Rana Sanaullah to withdraw his allegations, tender an apology and pay damages within a period of 14 days, failing which, the notice read, Awan has the right to initiate legal proceedings against him under Defamation Act.
