Libraries need attention

Author: Daily Times

Sir: Libraries serve the noble purposes in society. These are seats of learning. But Sukkur’s people don’t have any proper functioning library in the district. Sukkur is Sindh’s third largest city and Mir Masoosm Shah is a main library that faces many problem for many years.

The library faces the problems of dearth of books of various subjects, potable drinking water, adequate furniture, arrangement for proper lighting, functioning air-conditioners and solar energy alternative during load-shedding. The related high ups are not ready to pay the heed to the issues despite many protests and complains of the citizens. Another library that was constructed about a decade-ago in Taluka Rohri of district Sukkur has not been opened yet for the public. The logic behind this is beyond my meager understanding. It is time the concerned authorities took some drastic measures to redress the said issues in order to make the Sukkur’s libraries fully functional. It is a question of Sukkur’s youth’s future.
