Sir: In a populated city like Karachi, traffic problems are very common, which are getting worse with every passing day. One important reason for this traffic mess is the large number of vehicles while on the other hand, many roads are under construction due to the ongoing development work in the city. Another reason for the unending traffic jams is a lack of civic sense among drivers. Most drivers are unaware of traffic rules or they simply do not bother to follow them.
VIP movement combined with construction work also causes massive traffic jams in several parts of the city. The Karachi traffic police accept bribes from the drivers of buses, wagons, trucks and other commercial vehicles and do not perform their duties honestly. In order to solve this problem, the government, concerned authorities and the general public should act responsibly. In my opinion, the increasing number of private vehicles should be reduced and a comprehensive public transport system should be introduced. Heavy penalties and strict punishment should be awarded to the people who violate traffic rules.
