ISLAMABAD: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Chairman Azam Saigol on Monday resigned from his post. He said he had resigned due to personal reasons.

Civil Aviation Division spokesman confirmed the news and said the board would decide about accepting or rejecting the resignation. Media reports said bureaucracy was not happy with the PIA chairman following the recent plane crash. He was also not taken into confidence before grounding ATR aircraft. Meanwhile, a meeting of the PIACL was presided over by PIACL Board of Directors Member Ghiasuddin Ahmed, said a PIA spokesman. Acting PIA CEO Bernd Hildenbrand and other senior officials were present. The shareholders were informed about PIACL’s performance during the last one year.
