KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa has emphasised that all out efforts will be made to consolidate gains made so far during operation Zarb-e-Azb and indiscriminately eliminate remnants of terrorists with their sleeper cells. COAS General Bajwa visited Corps Headquarters and Rangers Headquarters Karachi on Wednesday. He was given a detailed briefing about operational preparedness of the formation and security situation in Sindh, particularly in the city of Karachi. Overall accomplishments of the operation so far and the way forward remained the focus of the briefing. The COAS commended the army, Rangers, law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies for noticeable improvement in the law and order situation.
“Karachi is the economic hub of the country and security in the metropolitan has a direct bearing on overall business climate and economic activity of the entire country,” General Bajwa said in a press statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). General Qamar Javed Bajwa particularly lauded the support and sacrifices of people of Karachi in this journey towards peace. He said operations would not be allowed to be reversed and the operations would continue till attainment of sustainable peace.
He directed a focused and synergised effort of all military and civil intelligence agencies for optimum effects to preempt potential threats to peace in Karachi. The COAS further said that the Pakistan army will render all necessary assistance to the provincial government for capacity building and training of LEAs for long term effectiveness against organised crime and enduring peace for the City. General Bajwa appreciated the improvement in the law and order situation in Karachi and said that the Pakistan Army, Rangers and other law enforcement agencies have played an important role in this regard.
Previously, he was briefed about operation and security issues by Corps Commander Karachi and DG Rangers Sindh. The COAS visited the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah where he laid a floral wreath and offered Fateha.
Later, Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General John Nicholson called on the Chief of Army Staff on Wednesday at GHQ. Matters of mutual interest including regional security issues and border management mechanism along Pakistan-Afghanistan border were discussed. General John Nicholson lauded the achievements of Pakistan army in fight against terrorism and continued efforts for peace and stability in the region, ISPR said in a statement.
