Polio’s new war

Author: Daily Times

Sir: It refers to the article published in a newspaper. The writer wonderfully discussed the ongoing issue of polio vaccination which is under threat by such conservative societies in Pakistan. However, if we have a glance over the recent campaign of polio vaccination which was meant to reach 39.4 million children under age of five across the country but unfortunately due to negative campaign of social media 700,000 parents in Peshawar refused polio vaccination which was the highest vaccine refusal in the recent history.

It is gratifying to see that 2500 children being rushed to different hospitals with claims of polio drops. And polio vaccinators are also haphazardly being attacked by anti-vaccine sentiments which are a threat in the war on polio eradication. Although polio cases have decreased by over 99 percent across the world but unluckily Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Nigeria are the only countries where polio still exist. Isn’t it a shocking fact? Absolutely, the fact hearts us because most of the world has eradicated it but still it persists within the above mentioned Islamic countries.
