KARACHI: The three main sewerage lines have been gusted in Malir, Khokhrapar, Moin Abad and Model Colony after heavy inflow of rainwater in the conduits.

The people of these parts of city have plugged the broken portions of the lines with sand in order to stop the gushing sewage into their low lying houses and shops.

The officials of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) and District Korangi have been unmoved on the matter and non of the responsible has even the site.

On the directives of Chairman Korangi District Municipal Corporation, embankments that had been built by the area people on two sites of Malir River which have been erected in order to keep the rainwater and sewerage water to flow smoothly.

According to officials of KWSB, eleven sewerage lines in parts of city have been spurted and repair work on these lines has been started.

In New Karachi Sector 3, inhabitants of more than 500 houses have moved to safer places as rainwater has inundated their settlements.

Rainwater and the sewage has badly affected areas including Farooqabad sector 10, Habib Bank quarters sector 11/5, Orangi Town, Chaman Cinema Pak Colony, Old Golimar, Rexer Lines, Gabol Goth and parts of areas . The pace of work for desalting and dredging filth from several nullahs in city by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has not been upto standard due to negligence of officials and absence of required number of machinery.
