Sindh University ranked among top Asian varsities

The University of Sindh Jamshoro has been named among the top 500 higher education institutes in Asia in the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2019.

The annual ranking by world leading ranking authority Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has been expanded this year to include the top 500 universities in Asia.

For Pakistan, there was some good news, as the number of Pakistani universities in the top league climbed to 23 from the previous year’s number of just 16. Out of the best 23 Universities of Pakistan, the University of Sindh Jamshoro has been placed on number 19 including it in the 401-450 band, which is a big achievement and an immense accomplishment of the university.

The milestone performance of the University of Sindh in terms of seeking entry into the QS Asia University Ranking 2019 is the outcome of day in and day out efforts taken by the vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat who never compromised on academic related matters which include commencement of classes in time, holding of semester examinations as per schedule, conduct of research in various areas and low attendance of the students.

SU also ranks 19 among best Pakistani varsities by QS World University Rankings for the year 2019

Sindh University achieved the triumph on the basis of overall academic improvement which included reputation, faculty-student ratio, international research network, publications of research papers and betterment in other required components.

The ranking list is prepared on the basis of 11 main components which carries 100 % points. These components include the academic reputation (30%), employer reputation (20%), faculty-student ratio (10%), international research network (10%), citations per paper (10%), publications of research papers per faculty (5%), staff with a PhD (5%), proportion of international faculty (2.5%), proportion of international students (2.5%), proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5%) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5%).

The management of QS has been issuing the list of ranking for the top universities working in Asia annually since 2009 expending the same methodology used for the QS World University Rankings. This set of criteria, developed in consultation with regional experts and stakeholders, is designed to reflect key priorities for universities in Asia, drawing on as much available data as possible.

This year, the University of Sindh as a result of diligence of its academic leader and vice chancellor Prof. Dr. Fateh Muhammad Burfat managed to force an entry into the list of top 500 Asian Universities as ranked by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) in its World University Rankings 2019.

It may be noted that the QS Asia University Ranking list is issued annually by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) which is a UK-based higher education marketing company.
