Kami Sid breaks silence over rape and intimidation allegations

Transgender activist and model Kami Sid on Saturday said that she was innocent of all the allegations levelled against her and that she has never committed the “horrible crime” she has been accused of.

In a message posted on her Facebook account on Saturday, the model and activist addressed the allegations against her of repeatedly raping and abusing a now-deceased minor transgender girl, who went by the name Sana, in 2014 along with her partner Sid Kami.

“The case of allegations that my slanderers refer to is from 2014. Back then already, no legal charges were ever made against me. Nevertheless, both the NGOs that I was working with at that time and the khwajasara community decided to investigate the case. It was decided that I would not be able to work with them anymore if I would be found guilty. Both investigated the case thoroughly,” she wrote.

“The investigation was painstaking and difficult for me. But I knew that I was innocent and had nothing to fear. In the end, indeed, both the non-governmental organisation I was working with and the khwajasara community could prove me innocent and that all allegations made against me were rendered as being false. For me and the people that I work with the case has been closed since then,” Kami added.

The model further said that certain people keep bringing up these old charges against her, specifically at those times when she has achieved something positive in her life and for the transgender community.

“I can say from the depth of my heart that I am innocent of all the allegations made against me. I have never committed such a horrible crime. Not only do I say that, but others have also already been my witnesses and spoken out for me,” she lamented.

She added, she does not expect everybody to believe her or the people who speak out for her. “I know that a celebrity like me will always have people who will oppose her. I expect you to make your allegations via the proper way that our society, our law system and decent humanity has created for such allegations, instead of engaging in a social media hunt against me. I don’t stand for ‘politics of naming and shaming’ but in formal recourse to legal channels,” Kami added.

Kami further said that those who have slandered her can expect legal action, “I will not tolerate further slander of me and my community. You can expect that legal procedures against my slanderers will follow soon. Unlike the people who have attacked me, I am more than willing to make my case heard according to the legal path paved with utmost transparency and cooperation from my end.”

A day earlier, the activist was removed as the organiser of Aurat March after allegations of sexual abuse and intimidation surfaced against her on social media earlier this week.

“We have been aware of these allegations and members of our group have also been subjected to Kami’s bullying tactics. We removed Kami as an organiser due to these very allegations and we stand in solidarity with those who have come forward with their allegations of sexual violence,” the organisation said in the post.
