In a viral photo of the event, MQM-Pakistan’s Amir Khan is seen welcoming Afaq Ahmed.
Sources said that MQM-P was facing internal challenges. “Before this, Amir and Afaq had also held meetings, but they were kept secret. The MQM-P spokesperson used to deny such meetings ever took place,” sources said.
On the other hand, from Pak Sarzameen Party’s (PSP) Waseem Aftab also attended the event.
However, other MQM-P leaders, such as Farooq Sattar, Kamran Akhtar, Shahid Pasha and many others kept away from the event.
Earlier, in October 2018, Afaq Ahmed had denied that his party was merging with MQM-P.
Afaq Ahmed was the MQM founder’s adviser in the 1980s. However, he left the party after developing differences with its leaders in the early 1990s and launched his own political party. Several hundred people were killed in clashes between the two groups in the 1990s.
