KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court granted bail to Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s leader Kunwar Naveed Jameel in two cases pertaining to anti-state speech, riots and attack on a media house.

Jameel along with other MQM leaders and workers had been booked on the charges of listening to hate speech, anti-state offences and attack on media houses on Aug 22.

The ATC-II granted bail to the MQM leader against the surety bond of Rs1 million in each case. However, it dismissed the bail pleas of three MQM workers, including Hassan Alam, Fareed Ahmed and Faisal.

The court had earlier reserved its verdict on the bail application after hearing defense and prosecution side. Jameel had moved the bail plea through his lawyer, Shaukat Hayat, submitting that he was not present during the anti-state speech of MQM founder, nor was he involved in any ant-state activity.

He said that he was member of the national assembly and is associated with MQM-Pakistan, which had parted its ways with the party’s founder after his anti-state activities.

Meanwhile, the court repeated the non-bailable warrants for the arrest of absconding MQM leader Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan and others.

Two FIR’s were registered at Artillery Madian police station against MQM leaders and workers for listening to hate speech, rioting and attacking a media house on August 22 this year.
