ISLAMABAD: Following directives of Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the Capital Territory Police (CTP) has decided to take action against vehicles using police beacon lights illegally.

Officials said that the decision to launch the crackdown had been taken in a meeting of the Safe City police officials convened by SSP Islamabad Sajid Kiyani.

“In the meeting, all the Station House Officers (SHOs) and Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) were directed to impound all vehicles and motorcycles using blue revolving lights and submit a report within three days.

The meeting also imposed a ban on use of blue revolving lights on vehicles by parliamentarians and police officials after duty timings. The officials were directed to shift such vehicles to police stations immediately after tracing them with the assistance of surveillance cameras.

A few months earlier, the interior minister had ordered action against vehicles using blue revolving light illegally. However, the directive was not implemented by the CTP.

When contacted, a spokesperson of CTP said that only LEAs could use blue revolving lights on their vehicles, adding that stern action would be taken against violators.
