Maj Gen (r) Rehmat Khan has been unanimously elected as president of Al-Shifa Eye Trust for the next four years.
Maj Gen (r) Rehmat, a known figure in the humanitarian circles, has been elected to the slot after the sudden demise of Lt Gen (r) Hamid Javaid who served the institution as its president for eight years to make it one of the world’s leading eye care facility.
Maj Gen (r) Rehmat, a veteran of Armoured Corps, has served at various important command and staff assignments. He has commanded the Mechanised Division and remained director general at the General Headquarters. He was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz (Military) by the government of Pakistan.
After his retirement from the army, he was appointed managing director of the Fauji Cement Company. Later he remained country head/CEO of the Lafarge Pakistan Cement and also chairman of its board of directors.
He was awarded French Legion of Honour by the government of France for promotion of trade and business relations between Pakistan and France.
He has been on the Board of Trustees of Al-Shifa Eye Trust for last four years.
