KARACHI: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Saturday decided to form a grand alliance against the Nawaz-led government, Daily Times learnt on Saturday.
It was also decided in the party’s three-day meeting in Dubai that the PPP would never derail democracy. The party has started contacting like-minded political parties to launch an agitation campaign across the country. The phase-wise campaign includes protests, public gatherings and a long march. Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah has been assigned to contact all political parties in this regard.
The PPP’s Central Executive Committee has been tasked to finalise the schedule for the campaign, sources said.
The meeting also discussed the country’s political scenario, preparations for Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s by-election from Larkana, the homecoming of former president Asif Zardari next week, the minority protection bill, development on Panama leaks inquiry, non-cooperation of treasury bench on national issues and challenges faced by the Sindh government and its performance.
“If the present government will not accept our four demands by December 26, we will launch an agitation campaign at 9th Youm-e-Shahadat of Benazir Bhutto on December 27, at Garhi Khuda Bukhsh, Larkana,” the PPP source said. The PPP senior leadership has asked Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah to prepare a performance report of his ministers and remove the incompetent ones, the source said.
The leadership also tasked the CM to consult all religious and political parties in regard with the minority protection bill to develop consensus and devise a plan accordingly, the source added.
The meeting also finalised the arrangements of slain PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto’s death anniversary. On December 15, the PPP leaders reached the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the meeting led by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and former president Asif Zardari.
