Durj is an upcoming, controversial film based on the real events of Cannibalism within the country. The mystery-thriller flick is directed by Shamoon Abbassi and produced by Dodi Khan and Sherry Shah. The movie made it to Cannes Film Festival this year and as the team prepares to hit the grand film exhibition, Daily Times was able to get an exclusive interview with Sherry Shah, who is playing the lead role next to Shamoon Abbassi in the film.
Sherry Shah speaks to DT about her very challenging role and script of the movie Durj,
‘The controversial standpoint of Durj wasn’t daunting, but rather was one of the things that initially intrigued me with this project. It was very thrilling to be a part of something that I knew would be so ardently different and challenging’ says the actress.
Speaking about her daring bald look for the character in the film, Sherry stated, “I believe it’s important to go the extra mile, to be thoroughly invested in what you do as it promotes a certain degree of passion and dedication to your work.
The actress, who is also a famous Pakistani model has starred in a number of Pakistani Dramas in the past. Sherry claims to not be horrified at any point during the filming of the movie. Speaking further about her look she added, ‘It deemed fit as my character progressed and I discussed it at lengths with the director but after a while, we were all on board with it’
Was it ever difficult for the actress to get in and out of character on set?
“Since I was playing the character on-screen, and being the producer off-screen there wasn’t really a moment where I would focus upon my mental transition between the two. Mostly I had to snap back to being a producer the minute I could” replied the bald beauty.
“We had all done extensive research, each of the cast members respectively. And I believe that helped us all understand what we were trying to portray and to comprehend the characterization better.”
Sherry shares that since the nature of the script was quite depressing and the weather conditions were harsh too, the actress made it a point to keep things light on set by cracking jokes.
Praising the director of the film, Sherry commented, “I’ve admired Shamoon’s work as a director and an actor since he never does anything half-heartedly. He is passionate about his work and shows a level of dedication that is scarcely found in the industry. As a director, he has the skill to make settings, characters, and scenes incorporate them beautifully with each other and as an actor, his vast experience in the field speaks for itself”
The movie’s initial release date was announced a few days ago, Durj will hit cinemas by 11th October this year, but not for the Pakistani audience. The movie will first be released in UK, US, Canada, UAE, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and Qatar before finally releasing in Pakistan.
