The annual “Chillum Joshi” festival comes to its end

The “Chillum Joshi” festival came to its end after it was celebrated with joy and full freedom by the people of the beautiful valley called “Kailash” and there were hundreds of tourists among the people who attended and enjoyed this beautiful festival.

Talking about this festival a local resident of Kailash said, “We celebrate and enjoy this beautiful festival annually so that to welcome the spring in a very peaceful way and world should learn we are peaceful, loving and want others to come and enjoy our festivals and let the rest of the world know about this.”

He added that this festival was the same for us as Eid was for Muslims, Easter was for Christians and Diwali was for Hindus.

The people of Kailash tribe which is living in the most beautiful valley of Pakistan are celebrating this unique festival on the arrival of spring every year from 13 to 16 May.

Taimuk a young man while speaking to Daily Times said, “There are many good reasons that make us to wait for this festivals, but one of these reasons is that it is the only occasion which in the lovers express their love and get a chance to let the other people of the community know about her/her love.”

He added that he had expressed and gotten his love in the same festival two years back.

Beside local people thousands of foreign tourists also come to Pakistan in order to join and enjoy this beautiful festival of Kailash valley and beside many other reasons this festival is one of the reasons which make the people of Kailash unique and well recognized around the world.

On the occasion of arrival of spring all the people from this community start preparations and all the men, women and children gather in the valley Bomboriat while wearing the colorful dresses so that to welcome the beautiful spring in a very unique way.

The people of Kailash are residing here for centuries and they are following their traditions and enjoying and celebrating their festivals according to their traditions or norms.

The festivals, traditions and their way of life is very unique and this is the reason that it attracts hundreds of tourists annually to Kailash valley.

What is Chillum Joshi?

This is the beautiful festivals starts with the arrival of spring and local people of this beautiful valley welcome the spring in a very beautiful and charming way by wearing colorful dresses and this festival is celebrated like religious festival because the people of Kailash have very respect for this festival.

Beside the display of beautiful costumes many beautiful dishes are cooked for the participants of the show and on the first two days of festival the goat’s milk are distributed among the people in a very proper way and people makes queues to wait for their turn and get the milk.

The milk distributed in the festival is very respectful and sacred for the people of Kailash that is why everyone tries to get a sip of milk.

The small kids are the first who are called to drink this milk and at the end a few sips of this milk are given to the old and grown men. When all the people drink the milk so this is the official start of this beautiful festival.

As the festival starts the women sings and dance on the beats of doll and all the men and tourists just sit and watch this dance and admiring the dancing women.

This dance ends as the sun comes down and the darkness prevails then the people starting moving to their homes.

Kailash is one of the regions in Pakistan where women are very much empowered and all the household decisions are made by the women and this is the reason that women are considered as a symbol and sign of culture.

At the last day of this festival the women of all stages gather in an open place and start dancing and singing and men are sitting around to watch them dancing and appreciating them.

The last and final moment of this festival is very unique and amazing in this moment, love is expressed openly and those girls and boys who love each other come together hold each other’s hand and announce for their marriages.

The all participant of this festival go back to their homes, congratulate each other and spring is welcomed in this beautiful way in the beautiful valley.
