The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday issued an interim order, stopping government officials and politicians from using treasury funds for personal reasons.
The Lawyer’s Foundation for Justice had filed a petition, stating that the treasury was the trust of the public and could only be used for public welfare. The petitioner stated that politicians and government officials were the trustees of the treasury, and could not use it for their personal matters, and observed that the founder of the nation, Quaid-e-Azam, had ordered that even tea should not be served during official meetings.
The petitioner requested the court to order government officials and politicians to stop using public funds for personal matters.
In his interim order, Justice Aminuddin Khan stopped the use of public funds for personal reasons by government officials until the next hearing on May 23. Notices were issued to the government and other respondents to the petition for the next hearing. Until then, the court stated that government officials should not even have a cup of tea that was paid for by public funds.
