Asad Shafiq hit a century at the Gabba in the fourth innings, winning laurels by hitting 2716 runs in 46 matches, crossing Sir Garry Sobers with the help of nine centuries.

The batsman played a heroic knock, scoring 137 runs at the Gabba in the first test match against Australia. This is an achievement that earned him immense praise.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) selection committee member Tauseef Ahmed lauded the team’s resilience and their valiant attempt to chase down what would have been a world record chase of 490 in the first Test against Australia at Gabba.

Tauseef praised the man-of-the-match Asad Shafiq for scoring a stunning fourth-innings hundred in his first-ever Test in Australia. Tauseef, who represented Pakistan in 34 Tests and 70 ODIs, praised the Karachi-born middle-order batsman Shafiq, who, according to him has earned the tag of a ‘world-class’ batsman after scoring a century in his first Test on Australian soil.

“It almost feels like a victory after the way the team fought back following their first innings collapse,” said Tauseef, “More importantly, the team has sent a stern warning to the hosts after such a spirited performance, and it will lift their morale for the remainder of the series as well.”

“Asad Shafiq is our future and the way he regained his form is commendable,” said Tauseef, “He proven himself as a world-class batsman. Any player from Asia who scores a hard-fought century in Australia becomes a certified top batsman and he has achieved that.”

Pakistan Test Cricket Captain Misbah ul Haq also praised Shafiq for his heroic innings. Misbah said, “That is one of the classiest innings I have seen. With the way he handled pressure while playing with the tail.” Misbah further added, “The mindset was always positive which changed the whole scenario of the match.”

Michael Clarke

Former Australian skipper Michael Clarke took to twitter and praised Pakistan’s comeback in the first Test at Brisbane after the visiting site collapsed in the first innings.

“Pakistan have been brilliant today. A great turn around after the first innings,” Clarke wrote on his verified Twitter account. The former skipper also commended the Asad Shafiq’s spectacular knock. “What a great 100 from Shafiq. All class,” Clarke said.

Pakistan team now heads to Melbourne for the second test which starts on 26 December.
