KP wounded surgeon: Doctors boycott OPDs, demand action against health minister

Author:

To protest against the alleged torture of Associate Professor Dr Ziauddin at the hands of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Minister Hisham Inamullah Khan, doctors across the province, on Wednesday, announced a boycott of the outpatient departments (OPD) at all government hospitals.

KP Doctors Council claimed that their primary demand was to register a first information report (FIR) against Inamullah Khan for allegedly torturing Dr Ziauddin at the Khyber Teaching Hospital.

On the other hand, the health minister maintained that Dr Ziauddin had egged Nausherwan Burki, the cousin of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Upon reaching the hospital, he, too, was attacked, Inamullah Khan asserted while adding that he was saved by his bodyguards.

He further noted that some doctors were trying to hinder reforms in the province. Police also registered a case against Dr Ziauddin on the KP minister’s request.

Meanwhile, police sources noted that no protesting doctor was arrested whereas a request to register a case against the KP health minister had been taken.

In a similar development, KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan also took notice of the incident and ordered an inquiry into the matter.

Earlier, a video showing Dr Ziauddin on a stretcher while doctors administer him first aid was making rounds on social media.
