KARACHI: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Khursheed Shah on Tuesday said the Abbottabad Commission report, pertaining to the May 2011 raid by US Special Forces at a compound in Abbottabad, should be made public.

Shah said that the report was not made public due to security concerns during the tenure of his party. The PPP leader was of the view that it was time for the report to come to light.

The Abbottabad Inquiry Commission had investigated and reported the circumstances surrounding the May 2011 raid by US Special Forces at a compound in Abbottabad.

The commission had interviewed over 300 witnesses and gave 200 recommendations in a 700-page report submitted to the prime minister. The report was immediately classified, but a version was leaked by an international news network.

Shah also criticised the government by invoking the report by Justice Qazi Faiz Essa that exposed the failure of the incumbent government in implementing the National Action Plan (NAP).

He maintained that the Ministry of Interior failed to ensure the security of people in the country.

Earlier on Monday, head of the Abbottabad Inquiry Commission, Justice Javed Iqbal (r) demanded that the report should be made public, three years after having submitted the findings surrounding the raid in Abbottabad.

Iqbal said the commission’s report only focused on identifying those responsible for what had occurred on May 2, 2011 in Abbottabad.
