Herrera’s departure represents The Glazers failing reign

“There is red in my heart, I knew it from the first time I played here (Old Trafford), and in the moment I started to wear it (the club jersey). (Manchester United is) A club with thousands of fans that respect and remember the players who give everything.” These words were uttered by Manchester United player, Ander Herrera, in a video announcing he would be leaving The Red Devils this summer — worse yet, on a free. Marcos Rojo — £80,000 a week; Antonio Valencia £100,000 a week; Ashley Young £110,000 a week; Fred £175,000 a week, amongst others, are paid more than Herrera, but, the board are unwilling to give him the pay rise he deserves. This is the fundamental issue of The Glazer reign — lack of footballing IQ. Herrera wouldn’t be a starting centre-midfielder for a title-winning Premier League team, but, he should comfortably be a regular for a team fighting for 4th. More important than ridding our club of Ander Herrera, was selling Ashley Young, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and other deadwood in our club. But, our owners don’t know this. Herrera’s spot wasn’t a place that needed strengthening or a player who needed replacing this summer. But because the board were unwanting to give him a pay rise, on the low wages he’s being paid, he decided to leave – and rightly so. One thing is clear – until the Glazers depart, Manchester United will find it incredibly difficult to return to their former self.
