ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts accorded formal approval to appoint the Peshawar High Court Chief Justice as judge of the Supreme Court while senior judge Justice Yahya Afridi is expected to be the new chief justice of the Peshawar High Court.
This decision was taken in a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Judges Appointment in the Superior Courts held on Wednesday at Parliament House. The meeting, chaired by MNA Syed Naveed Qamar was attended by Senator Raja M. Zafar-ul-Haq, Senator Muhammad Javed Abbasi, MNA Ch. Mahmood Bashir Virk and MNA Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
The committee considered the recommendations of Judicial Commission of Pakistan for appointment of a judge in the Supreme Court and appointment of Peshawar High Court Chief Justice. After detailed discussions, the Parliamentary Committee confirmed the nominations of Mr. Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court as Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Mr. Justice Yahya Afridi, senior judge for appointment as Peshawar High Court Chief Justice against the anticipated vacancy which will occur on the elevation of Mr. Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, the incumbent Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court, as Judge in Supreme Court of Pakistan.
