Before leaving for Sindh, Ajoka Theatre Spokesman Qasim Ali, while talking exclusively to Daily Times said that both the shows are being a hit already and it was on high demand, that they had to bring these plays to Sindh. He said that the team was very excited and passionate to perform these play in front of the Sindh audience. This year was among the most hectic for the untiring Ajoka team.
Ajoka team presented two back-to-back shows of it acclaimed play “Kabira Kharra Bazaar May” on Wednesday and “Bullah” will be performed today (Thursday) at the Sindh Museum Auditorium, Hyderabad. The team will then travel to Larkana for a special show of “Bullah”, that will be staged in open air auditorium of the Larkana Arts Council.
“Kabira Kharra Bazaar May” was written by famous Indian writer Bisham Sahni and directed by Amritsar-based Punjabi director Kewal Dahalliwal and assisted by Ajoka’s Nirvaan Nadeem. The play traces the life and message of the influential mystic Bhagat Kabir with a live singing of his songs. Son of Soil Bhagat Kabir, the 15th century poet-saint, is the best known representative of the Bhakti movement, largely monotheistic, spiritual and social movement, which openly challenged the Hindu caste system and odd rituals and projected a relationship with the creator based on love and compassion.
“Bullah” is Ajoka’s most popular play and a tribute to the great mystic poet Bulleh Shah whose shrine is situated in Kasur. The play is written by Shahid Nadeem and is directed by Madiha Gohar. The play is broadly based on the events of Bulleh Shah’s life as communicated through his poetry, historical records and popular myths. It is a strong plea for love and peace and an indictment against intolerance, violence and hatred.
