The most bizarre dresses at Met Gala 2019

Author: Zaresh Ernest

As the celebrities enjoy themselves while pre-planning the most ‘rad’ outfit for this day, we, the people wait for the most avante garde and unwearable dresses of the year.

Each outfit that walks the ‘Pink carpet’, which is another main feature at the event, pays tribute to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and like the theme suggested the celebrities came in the most dramatic styles of couture.

There was a flamboyant display of the wackiest, creepy, glamorous and over the top participants. We bring you the most entertaining numbers from the exuberant Met Gala 2019.

Lady Gaga, Harry Styles and Serena Williams were to Co-Chair 2019 Met Gala. Last year’s picks were Amal Clooney, Rihanna and Donatella Versace. Everyone was excited to see what these three chose to wear for the event keeping the theme in mind – Harry walked in at the event in a high wasted black pant, a lacey-see-thru top with ruffles and a tear drop pearl earring. Though we were expecting more drama, yet this simple choice of wardrobe surprised many of his fans.

As we all know that Lady Gaga just cannot do without drama. She made a grand entrance in her life size 25 foot long, hot pink ball gown with a train, which was escorted on the ‘Pink Carpet’ with the help of several suited men that held her dress under umbrellas. Her false lashes were designed by her makeup artist Sarah Tanno, who cut “razor-sharp splices of gold leaf, sculpting them into voluminous, five-inch-long lashes that fanned out to create a cat-eye effect.”

She soon stripped out of the large ball gown into a black dress and then further walked out of the black into another hot pink fitted dress and finally walking in at the event in black undergarments. Talk about being dramatic!

Next in line was Serena Williams and we all hoped to see something out of the box for the athletic star. She entered in a bright, fluorescent yellow and pink voluminous Versace gown dotted with pink leaves and exaggerated shoulders. She strutted into the event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a pair of neon yellow Nike Air shoes made in collaboration with Off-White.

And then onto the more daring, campy outfits…

Katy Perry always plays a good sport for Met Gala and this time again she wanted all lights on her, no, like literally. She came to the Met Gala in a chandelier! She even balanced a little chandelier on her head which was her head gear for the night. If that wasn’t enough, the singer wore an equally clownish outfit for the after party. She decided to come as a ham burger for the event.

The creepiest would be Jared Leto who carried his own head as a prop. The Suicide Squad actor wore a red Gucci look from the Autumn/Winter 2018 show, where the models walked the ramp with a replica of their own head. Gucci’s replica head for the runway reportedly took about six months to make and required 3-D scans and high-tech action.

Cardi B is another celebrity that loves to go over board for such events with her unconventional costumes and she did it again-the singer walked the carpet in custom Thom Brown gown with a 10-foot train. The dress looks like a large blanket and also a little bit like Rihanna’s yellow dress from Met Gala 2015. Cardi B needed a whole army to walk the stairs due to the weight of the dress.

Billy Porter is now the King of dramatic fashion after his velvet tuxedo ball gown at the Oscars. He makes an appearance as the ‘Sun god”- carried on a litter by six shirtless men in gold pants and shoes, Billy’s ‘gaudy’ gold suit had four wings and 24 karat gold head piece. One of the designers, David Blond of The Blonds, told Vogue, “In all, Billy will be wearing well over a million crystals, beads, and a chain!” This was Porter’s first Met Gala, and it’s safe to say he’ll be a staple at the event for years to come.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower’s Ezra Millers costume was designed by Burberry’s creative director Riccardo Tisci, and featured a full length cape and mask, which later revealed a black pinstripe suit with a train and jewel corset. Beneath the mask Miller’s face appeared to have seven set of eyes, an illusion that sent the fans into a frenzy.

These were just a few of the very bizarre looks from the Met Gala’s ‘Pink carpet”, which one has been the kookiest look for Met Gala 2019?
