Tiktok, also known as Douyin in China, is an iOS and Android media app for creating and sharing short videos. The application allows users to create short music videos of 3 to 15 seconds and short looping videos of three to 60 seconds.
It is said that Tiktok wad downloaded nearly 230m times in India. But on April 3, the Indian government directed by the court to put ban on this app as it was being misused in the country. Not only it was giving way to hyper patriotism, it was also being misused against children and women.
The app came under fire for allowing ‘pornographic’ and ‘sleazy’ content to propagate, especially among its younger audience. It’s also been alleged, in several countries, that the app is proving to be a fertile hunting ground for paedophiles. Apple’s app store and Google play store were asked to block Tiktok in India. Since the app is gaining popularity in Pakistan as well I feel we should take similar steps.
