Tent village set up for stranded passengers near Lowari Tunnel Road

UPPER DIR: The District Administration of Upper Dir has set up a tent village equipped with all facilities and necessitates of life for travelers and passengers at Al-Jazeera hotel near Panakot area.

The aim of the village to give proper shelter facilitates for those who used to travel to Chitral and face the miseries at the closer of Lowari Tunnel in the acute winter season.

The focal person of the District Administration Additional Assistant Commissioner Revenue (AACR) Faheedullah Khan told Daily Times number of tents has been installed for public facilitation who travel to Chitral.

“Six to seven people could easily be accommodated into one tent,” said Faheedullah, adding that apart from tent village, a dispensary had also established in the facilitation center for the purpose to provide first Aid and other health facilities to passengers on the spot.

An ambulance vehicle would also be present 24- hour there in the center for any emergency. He said that passengers would also get meal on reasonable rates for which they had already given a revised pricelist to the Al-Jazeera hotel management.

The focal person said that the district administration of Dir Upper had felt the miseries of the passengers, mostly Chitralis, during closure of the Lowari top and Lowari tunnel due to snowfall in winter and for that purpose they had decided of installing of the center at the stoppage point in Panakot to provide all possible facilities to those passengers whose waited of the opening of the Lowari top and Lowari tunnel. “The district administration has hired a big hall in the Al-Jazeera hotel for women and children passengers in which only women and children can set and also can sleep at the night there in the hall,” Faheed said.

He said that at Lowari tunnel a tuck shop being established with the assistance of Frontier Constabulary on ‘no profit no loss bases’ in which all kind of foodstuffs would be provided to passengers.

Faheedullah said that the district administration of Dir Upper once again inform passengers as well drivers that Lowari tunnel would be open for traveling only on Friday when Lowari top would close to traffic due to snowfall.

The district administration advised to drivers and passengers to travel toward Lowari tunnel and use the tunnel for traveling only on Friday and avoid themselves from getting any kind of difficulty and misery.
