ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Friday formally asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to make public the Abbottabad Commission’s report.

The interior minister also made it clear that he could not be blackmailed by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), and that corruption cases against the party’s leaders would be taken to their logical conclusion.

Sources told Daily Times that Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday at the PM’s House. Both the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders discussed the overall security and political situation of the country. Former president Asif Ali Zardari’s return to the country also came under discussion, sources said.

According to sources, the interior minister briefed the premier on his visit to Landi Kotal and the Pak-Afghan border areas. The leaders once again discussed the judicial commission’s report on Quetta incident, and the interior minister shared his viewpoint with the premier.

Chaudhry Nisar made it clear that he would not bow before those who had looted the country and were now facing corruption cases.

At one point, Nawaz Sharif wanted that the political fight between the PPP and Chaudhry Nisar should not result in any untoward situation, but the interior minister made it clear that he would continue doing his job weather he remained a minister or not, sources said.

The prime minister reportedly said that he wanted to work with political forces, including the PPP, for the development of the country. He hoped that after the return of Asif Ali Zardari, political maturity would prevail in the PPP. The premier also showed his willingness to hold talks with the PPP co-chairman on the party’s four demands.

Nawaz and Nisar also discussed the latest situation in Karachi, especially the Sindh Rangers’ action on Friday. They agreed that the Karachi operation would continue without any discrimination. The minister also briefed the premier on the raids carried out on some important personalities’ offices, sources said.

Meanwhile, Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar on Friday called on Nawaz Sharif in the first such visit since his appointment as the ISI chief earlier this month, said a Prime Minister’s Office statement.

According to sources, the ISI DG and the premier discussed matters related to internal security. Nawaz also appreciated the role the ISI had played in the war on terror.

Lt Gen Mukhtar replaced Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar as head of the ISI earlier in December.

The position of the ISI’s director general fell vacant after Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar was transferred to the National Defence University Islamabad as its president.
