Quetta says no to plastic shopping bags

The city administration, on Thursday, banned the sale and purchase of plastic shopping bags. Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) Administrator Farooq Langove noted that 12 plastic warehouses had been sealed in different parts of the city.

He added, “Those producing and selling plastic bags were given two months. That deadline has now expired.” Quetta is introducing biodegradable shopping bags while a private manufacturing plant has become operational for their production. While talking to media sources, Langove warned of strict action against those found using plastic shopping bags. Karachi Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) has also banned the use of polythene bags; setting a deadline of June 3.

Meanwhile, Hunza district administration, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments also banned the use of plastic shopping bags.
