Author: NNI

KARACHI: Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) President and former Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain said that electoral reforms are essential prior to the next elections, otherwise rigging would make the democratic exercise worthless.

He was addressing the Convention of Pakistan Muslim League Sindh at the residence of Provincial Party President Asad Junejo in which a large number of leaders and workers participated.

Along with Asad Junejo, Tariq Hassan, Naseer Mengal, Bostan Ali Hoti and other leaders also addressed the convention. They said that Ch Shujaat’s arrival would engender a new spirit and enthusiasm into the party workers.

Shujaat, in his address, pointed out that in the Punjab local body elections the party had secured second position. He noted that apart from the result of district council Attock, party members such as Syed Hashim Shah in tehsil Jalalpur Jattan, Zaheer Ahmad and Zubair Khan in tehsil Hassan Abdaal, Abid Daud in tehsil Fateh Jang, Malik Naeem Tariq and Malik Zahid Awan in tehsil Talagang along with Malik Qadeer Altaf and Muhammad Asif Nawaz in tehsil Lawa had also scored important victories in their chairman and vice chairman elections.

He said that the reason that PML-N had won the local body elections was because they were the ruling party in government in Punjab. He added that in light of the last elections and recent experiences, their party was stressing for immediate electoral reforms. Shujaat also urged for the abolishment of abusive politics, saying that positive politics should always be in force. He pointed out that his party had secured its votes on the basis of their performance, which ensures that the people would also vote for them in the next election.

Discussing the politics of sit-ins, the party president said that they would bring the corrupt government to an end. He added that Pakistan was the focal point of their politics, saying that the enemy of Pakistan was their enemy as well. He said that the elected government would be answerable to the people in the next meetings, adding that his party believed in the positive service of the people without discrimination.
