NAB constitutes committee for reforms in ICT dept

ISLAMABAD: On the directions of Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, the National Accountability Bureau has constituted a Prevention Committee for Reforms in the Cooperatives Department of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT).

According to a press release, NAB’s Prevention Committee for Reforms in ICT Cooperative Department had prepared a set of recommendations and presented them to Qamar Zaman Chaudhry in a meeting held at NAB Headquarters.

The NAB chairman had approved the proposed recommendations for onward submission to Ministry of Interior (MoI) for consideration/implementation. The recommendations were prepared after consulting all the stakeholders.

The proposals will further improve the working of the Cooperatives Department of ICT and will safeguard the investments of the general public as well as ensuring transparency in the affairs of department.

“The ICT Cooperatives Department appreciated NAB’s efforts for proposing effective and workable recommendations. It is very encouraging to note that the ICT had informed NAB that their recommendations had been included in a gazette notification dated March 3, 2017. All Management Committees of Cooperatives Housing Societies were directed to implement the directions issued under Section 44-D and 44-E of the Cooperative Societies Act, 1925,” the press release said.

“Moreover, every cooperatives society shall appoint a focal person from amongst its managing committee along with an officer of the society who shall be held personally liable for any lapse to this effect. The focal person shall also share the weekly progress report with circle registrar, Cooperatives Societies Department, Islamabad. In case of non compliance, the managing committee of the society shall be liable to be proceeded against jointly and severally under the penal provision of the Act,” the press release said.
