Judiciary dispensing justice without pressure: Justice Nisar

Author: By Hassnain Qureshi

LAHORE: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP)-designate Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has said that dispensation of justice is a sacred duty, and the judiciary is providing it without any pressure.

Addressing the members of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Saturday, Justice Saqib Nisar said that there was no pressure on the judiciary, and all cases were decided on merit.

He said he believed in truth and honesty, and would perform his duties with the best of his abilities. He said that his elders had taught him not to cheat anybody and always side with the truth.

He said that he had never compromised on principles and would not disappoint the legal fraternity. He also urged the members of the judiciary to dispense justice with patience.

Justice Nisar said that commitment and hardworking always paid, and giving his own example, he added that he had started practice as a lawyer – with a bench and a broken table in his office – and gradually reached the top.

He said that one could get temporary benefits through shortcuts but respect could never be achieved by such a practice.

Justice Saqib Nisar pledged that he would not disappoint the bar, as it was like a mother to him, and would repay it for whatever it had given to him.

He advised the bar association members to revive its old tradition, especially respect for seniors. He said that judges of the superior courts should be hard-working and articulate, and the lawyers should ensure that there was no disturbance in the performance of judicial duties. He said that the bar members should behave professionally, and added that the judiciary would perform according to the best of the abilities.
