WWF embezzles Rs 700m allocated for deceased workers

ISLAMABAD: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) officials have embezzled Rs 700 million allocated for the families of the deceased workers, Daily Times has learnt.

The KP government had earmarked the funds for the education and wedding of the children of the deceased industrial labourers died at work.

Though the amount was embezzled by the officers during financial year 2014-15, but no disciplinary action has been taken against them.

According to record, WWF had released Rs 1.80 billion for the families of the deceased workers, but the record of the banks revealed that Rs 1.10 billion had been disbursed among the deserving people.

The bank record showed that Rs 1,105  million were issued for the educational scholarships and Rs 79  million were released for the marriage grant whereas Rs 62 million were discharged on the account of death grant.

Daily Times tried to contact WWF, but the officials concerned were not available for comment.
