Crime ratio in capital drops by 25 percent: officials

ISLAMABAD: The federal capital crime ratio has decreased by 25 per cent as compared to last year Islamabad:

This was revealed in a meeting of the Capital police officers held under the chairmanship of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tariq Masood Yasin, here on Monday.

The meeting members detail reviewed the Federal Capital crime situation during the current year. The DIG Headquarters, Khalid Khan Khattak, the DIG Operations, the SSP Operations Islamabad, the SSP Traffic, the SP Investigation, all zonal SPs and others officers attended the meeting. During the meeting the IG Islamabad had a detailed reviewed of the current year crime ratio of the federal capital. He told the meeting members that horrific crime ratio of the federal capital had reduced by 25 per cent in the current year 2016, as compared to the last year, 2015.

While highlighting the crime ratio in 2016 he said that last year in 2015 as many as 115 incidents of murder had occurred in the federal capital but the current the number had reduced to 94 as a 19 per cent decrease had taken place in murder incidents. Only one case of kidnap of ransom was registered in the current year as compare to seven incidents that occurred last year.

The streets robbery incidents had decreased by 15 per cent as 280 incidents of street robbery had occurred in the current year as compared to 338 incidents that occurred in 2015.

It told the meeting that in 2015 as many as 396 vehicles had been robbed while in the current year the number had reduced to 249 as 33 per cemt decreased had occurred.

The meeting was informed that the Capital Police had arrested 97 criminals involved in banditry, 67 persons involved in cars, bikes stealing incidents and 3164 proclaimed offenders and others. The Capital Police had also recovered a large quantity of drugs and also seized a large quantity of liquor.

While addressing the meeting, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Tariq Masood Yasin, issued directions to the meeting officers. He directed the officers to take strict action against criminals so that the capital’s inhabitants are provided relief and protection.

The IGP also ordered all Station House Officers to take action against those involved even in crimes of minor nature. He directed to focus on community policing measures and bridge the gap between police and public if any. He also asked to ensure protection to the lives and property of the citizens so that trust of the people on police and their mutual cooperation may enhance the effective combating of crime.

He also urged the officers to make the social media and Facebook pages and provide complete details of related offices, police stations on its pages so that residents could coordinate with the police in easier ways.
