Jiyalas happy as Zardari, Bilawal to contest by-polls

LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) workers on Tuesday backed the decision of PPP Chairman Bilawal Zardari and his dad Asif Zardari to join the National Assembly (NA).

Talking to Daily Times, they termed it a positive act of their leadership for strengthening the party inside and outside parliament.

PPP enthusiasts were of the view that the decision to contest by-elections would twist the political scenario into the Bhuttos favour.

On the eve of 9th death anniversary of PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto, her son Bilawal and husband Zardari announced to contest by-elections from Larkana and Nawab Shah respectively.

Stick-in-the-mud PPP workers said now the parliamentary politics would change and opposition would succeed in raising the issues of the poor people.

Former PPP office-bearers Chaudhry Manzoor, Naveed Anjum, Samina Khalid Ghurki, Naveed Chaudhry, Azizur Rehman Chan, Rana Farooq Saeed, Faisal Mir, Muhammad Ayub, Altaf Qureshi, Napoleon Qayyum and Malik Sohail said they foresee change coming in the country’s politics.

They said the PPP was sitting in parliament as a main opposition party of the country but now it will succeed in raising a strong voice that would have a drastic impact on the results of the next general elections.

The PPP leaders also said that in the presence of Bilawal and Zardari in parliament, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his party would not play wrong and would be forced to answer questions regarding the Panama Leaks and other corruption cases.

They also said that the decisions to launch an anti-government long march or contesting polls would strengthen the party.

On the other hand, the PPP detractors and political pundits considered the move as a bubble and a trick to cover the government’s inefficiency and corruption.
