ISLAMABAD: The outgoing chief justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali administered an oath to Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel as a judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
A ceremony in this regard was held at the main building of the Supreme Court on Friday. Judges of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Attorney General for Pakistan, Advocate General Islamabad, senior lawyers and law officers, officers of Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan and Federal Judicial Academy Islamabad, attended the ceremony.
Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel was born in Dera Ismail Khan in 1957 and he completed his degree in law in 1982. He was enrolled as an Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2003 and remained Legal Advisor of different Firms/Institutions and Banks. He was elevated to the Bench of Peshawar High Court (PHC) as additional judge in 2009 and became a permanent judge of PHC in 2011.
After the elevation of Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel as judge of Supreme Court from the post of chief justice PHC, the number of judges has become 16. However, the total number of judges in Supreme Court is 17, while one post is vacant after the resignation of Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman from the post.
