He was summoned for answers with regard to his offshore assets. Speaking to media men outside the NAB office, the former foreign minister said that he had been asked to appear before the NAB along with his bank record.
He was ready to answer any query, he maintained. On April 1, the PML-N leader had written a letter to the bureau to notify about skipping the summon because of being out of the country.
Sources said that Asif was expected to return home on April 3. Earlier, on March 29, the accountability watchdog had asked the former federal minister to appear on April 2 to record his statement along with bringing the relevant records of his assets in the country and abroad.
Last year, the Executive Board of the NAB had approved an inquiry against him. Besides Khawaja Asif, other senior PML-N leaders are being investigated by the NAB, including Opposition Leader in the National Assembly, Shahbaz Sharif; his son, Hamza Shahbaz, and Khawaja Saad Rafiq for holding assets beyond known sources of income.
