Of late Red Devil fans have pointed out that, although Nemanja Matic’s performances have improved since the departure of Jose Mourinho – he isn’t getting any younger.
The club seemed to agree, and, in mid-February began eyeing numerous targets for the defensive midfield role; Tanguy N’dombele, Frankie De Jong and Declan Rice to name a few.
However, the recent emergence that Ander Herrera may actually have to leave the Mancunian club, has resulted in an extra position which may need replacing. Additionally, in previous years, it has been proven clear that the Glazers haven’t been open minded to spending really big – which has meant settling for mediocrity.
With that in mind, looking for a bargain would suit the Glazers idea of not over-spending, leaving money to find a replacement for Ander Herrera in the proccess, all the while getting a versatile, tenacious up and coming youngster.
Wilfred N’didi, of Leicester City, fits that exact description, and, additionally, is already Premier League proven.
Off the ball, he consistently makes numerous tackles and interceptions. In fact, in this season’s premier league campaign, the Nigerian holding-midfielder has made 3.8 tackles per game, in addition to 2 interceptions in the same amount of time. In fact, this season, N’didi has made exactly 120 tackles – the best in the league by quite a margin.
Additionally, unlike others in his position, the Leicester City midfielder is also composed on the ball, having averaged 53.55 passes per game, but still managing an 81.2 pass success percentage comparable to even his best competitors. Being able to keep hold of the ball, is another massive strength of Wilfred N’didi. He’s able to keep his plays simple, whilst, at the same time, effective. Dispossessed less than once every three games, the Nigerian is able to maintain possession of the ball, which would help Manchester United with their counter-attacking style of play. This is due to the fact, that, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s system requires that the team keeps the ball before mounting a counter-attack, so as to make an effective start.
It is for these reasons, Wilfred N’didi could make a great signing for Manchester United, and, at the same time, will be a fitting and realistic aquisition considering the Glazers reluctancy to spend extra money on players.
