Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) Chairman, Dr Tahirul Qadri, on Tuesday, announced that he was willing to accept whatever decision the court made in the Model Town case.

He said this while talking to media sources at Lahore airport upon his arrival from Turkey. Dr Qadri claimed that it was the first time that the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) had interrogated Sharif brothers and other accused in the case.

The PAT chief expressed satisfaction with the investigation process and remarked that the new JIT had recorded statements of both sides.

Referring to the case itself, he said it would be dealt with by the court and the PAT would approach the Supreme Court for justice if needed. Dr Qadri maintained that the JIT had interrogated former prime minister Nawaz Sharif with reference to his failure to constitute an impartial JIT during his tenure in the wake of the Model Town incident to investigate the matter fairly and transparently. Nawaz and Shahbaz Sharif were being interrogated for the first time in the last four years, he maintained. Qadri also wondered why Sharif brothers were getting worried if they were innocent as they had claimed, and had nothing to do with the incident. The chief vowed to continue ‘fighting’ legal battle until the justice is provided to the victims. On June 17, 2014, a violent clash ensued between the Punjab Police and PAT activists, leaving as many as 14 dead and dozens injured.
