NAB opposes Nawaz’s bail as SC hears petition today

As the top court is likely to give a ruling on former prime minister’s bail petition on Tuesday (today), the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday opposed the plea filed by Nawaz Sharif seeking bail on medical grounds.

The NAB in its reply submitted in the apex court said that the plea has no reference of any life-threatening disease to the petitioner, and pleaded the court to turn down the bail request. “The applicant has no ailment which poses threat to his life,” the NAB reply said. “No medical board has recommended his surgery, neither his bail issue is a hardship case,” it added. The anti-graft watchdog stated that the former prime minister is being given all facilities in Pakistan and that he only wants to make the case all about threat to life so that he can go abroad. It suggested that once given bail, Nawaz Sharif will be outside the jurisdiction of the court, adding that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has already studied all aspects of the case before rejecting the bail plea. NAB also said that Nawaz’s doctor Dr Lawrence’s report appears to be ‘unverified’ and ‘fictitious’. Earlier, Dr Lawrence’s letter written to Nawaz Sharif’s personal physical Dr Adnan was submitted in the court. The letter, submitted by Sharif’s lawyer Khawaja Haris, includes Nawaz’s medical history from 2003-2019.
