Pakistan Day to mark Marathon Peace Race

The District Administration kicked off the ‘Canal Mela’ at canal road Lahore in connection with the Spring Festival and Pakistan Day celebrations on Friday. The inside portion of canal from Mall underpass to Jail Road underpass is laden with decorations reflecting the culture and colors of all provinces of Pakistan and models of prominent and esteemed personalities including Quaid e Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allma Iqbal. Deputy Commissioner Lahore Saleha Saeed said that the citizens could see all the colors and cultures of the country in this Canal Mela and people should visit it with the families as they will be facilitated in a befitting way. “The District Administration is vehemently organizing function after function to provide best sort of entertainments either it be PSL live screening in Jillani Park or the month long events of spring festival,” said DC Lahore.

As far as the marathon race is concerned, District Administration Lahore has finalized its plan in this regard. Ten kilometer long marathon race will be starting from Qaddafi Stadium at 3pm to commemorate the Pakistan Day with great national zeal and zest on 23rd March. The registration process has been completed which showed that a large number of people will run for the peace in this marathon as over 2,000 people will participate in the marathon race. Traffic and parking plan for the marathon has also been issued for the ease of the citizens. DC Lahore Ms. Saleha Saeed has asked the citizens to participate in marathon race and enjoy the fun and run for peace. After marathon race, a musical concert will also be organized in Alhamra open area by District Administration in which famous singer Aaima Baig will give her performance. Similarly, District Administration will also organize Lahore carnival in Jillani Park on 24th and 25th march in which food, music, handicraft and kids zone will be presented. It will continue for two days.

District Administration Lahore continued its clean and green drive on the fifth day of cleanliness and plantation week. On fifth day, AC Shalimar held a plantation drive in Karol Ghatti near Ring Road where as many as 500 saplings of different species were planted on the LWMC landfill side by the students of the school. The forest department will also provide more than 1500 plants to plant of this area in coming days. Another event was held in Nasir Bagh where Civil Defense Department planted 200 saplings in the premises by volunteers of civil defense. District Administration Lahore also included transgender of Lahore in plantation drive in which transgender planted saplings of plants Nasir Bagh. They appreciated the activities of the district administration and termed this step of the government as positive one to save the future of Pakistan. AC City also held urban forestation in Yakki gate area where plants were planted in empty area to promote urban forestation. DC Lahore Ms. Saleha Saeed has said that it is good omen that people has considered the importance of the plantation. “No matter if we don’t enjoy the shadow of this sapling we are planting now but it is confirmed that our generations to come will definitely will sit and enjoy its shadow.” Ms Saleha said.
