KARACHI: “We have observed there is scant representation of labour in the parliament and if elected as an MPA, Saeed Ghani would be a voice of workers in Sindh Assembly,” said Habibuddin Junaidi, Convener of Sindh Labour Solidarity Committee in a joint press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday.

Labour leaders of various trade unions, labour federations and supporting organizations including Pakistan Institute of Labour Education and Research, National labour Council, Sindh Labour Solidarity Committee, Sindh Labour Federation, Democratic union of State Bank of Pakistan, KWSB Workers Union, IUF, Muttahida Labour Federation, Pakistan Trade union defense campaign, KPT Labour Union, Workers Education and Research Organisation (WERO), National Organisation of Working Communities (NOW Communities) , SESSI Employees Labour Union, Hosiery Garment general workers union, WAPDA Hydroelectric central labour union, Pakistan Fisher folk Forum, PC Workers Union and others extended their support for Saeed Ghani announced to support the “labour leader” Saeed Ghani, a candidate who is contesting bi-elections at PS-114 on the tickets of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians.

They believed that Senator Saeed Ghani belongs to the middle-working class and to the area of PS-144 thus he knows much more about the problems of the area as compared to other candidates of the elections.

During his brief tenure as Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister for Labour and Human Resource department, Senator Saeed Ghani also worked hard for improvement and good governance of the department. “As a Senator he strived to highlight the issues of workers in the upper house”.

Saeed belongs to the working class and it is good opportunity for the workers to send their representative to the Sindh Assembly.

To a question related to the lingering basic problems in PS-114-the stronghold of Saeed Ghani, they said that since 1988 no representative of PPP has been given chance to come ahead for serving people. “MQM-City District Council has been in power which has done nothing to develop the area”.

The speakers on the occasion appealed all the political parties to provide their party tickets to working class people in the forthcoming general elections to be held in 2018. “We have sent our recommendations to the Parliamentary Committee for Electoral Reforms to ensure adequate representation of workers in the parliament.

While, Habibuddin Junaidi, Liaqat Sahi, Qamar ul Hassan (IUF), Mir Zulfiqar Ali, Manzoor Razi, Ms. Farhat Parveen, Ms. Aliya Imam, Mehboob Ahmed, Zulfiqar Shah also spoke on the occasion.
