‘Prompt steps taken for protection of human rights’

ISLAMABAD: Human Rights Minister Kamran Michael on Wednesday assured to ensure the protection of human rights.

He held this assurance while talking to a parliamentary delegation from the UK led by Minister for Asia and Pacific Alok Sharma in Islamabad. Additional Secretary In-charge Rabia Javeria Agha also attended the meeting.

He said being a democratic country, Pakistan has always taken serious measures to ensure the better status of minorities without any prejudice. He added, “We are fully committed to implement the United Nations Conventions in Pakistan as our constitution strictly and clearly addresses the rights of minorities and awards them their due rights to ensure their freedom, basic rights and security.”

Human Rights Director General Hassan Mangi briefed the delegation regarding minorities’ status and implementation of human rights conventions in Pakistan. The delegation was also told about prevailing human rights situation in the country, including implementations of laws, policy and measures.

Michael said status has not only enhanced business and trade relations activities but also it is a productive tool to bring positive change in Pakistan.

“Constitution of Pakistan guarantees the human rights protection and we at Ministry of Human Rights ensure its implementations.”
