Police suspects ‘foul play’ in FTC building fire

Author: Daily Times Monitor

The police team probing the incident of mysterious fire that erupted in Karachi’s FTC building two days ago suspects a ‘foul play’, a private TV channel reported.

The investigators are probing the case from different angles to ascertain whether the fire was an accident or a mischief as somebody might have attempted to destroy some important record housed at National Bank’s regional office at the sixth floor of the FTC building.

Sources in the investigation team said the building was equipped with modern fire extinguishers. “How is this possible that the flames could not be doused in time,” they asked. “It is surprising to note the fire spread and engulfed whole portion of the floor. The fire dousing system installed in the building is so efficient that it can control the smoke within seconds,” they wondered. Sources said the records of loans taken by the Omni Group had also been kept with the National Bank of Pakistan. It may be noted that the Omni Group is under investigation over mysterious financial transactions. The court had ordered shifting of the fake accounts case from Karachi to Rawalpindi and subsequently it emerged that several important documents went missing during the shifting process.
