PPP Shaheed Bhutto to challenge Bilawal, Zardari in by-polls

LAHORE: Pakistan People’s Party Shaheed Bhutto Chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto has announced to field candidates in by-elections against Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, who are scheduled to contest elections from two different constituencies of Larkana and Nawab Shah districts, respectively.

She was talking to media after addressing a seminar on ‘Socialism in our economic society’ organised by her party at the Lahore Press Club (LPC) on Friday.

Dr Lal Khan, Professor Mehdi Hasan, Rashid Rehman, Abrar Azam and Professor Rashid Ahmad also spoke on the occasion and supported the radical ideology of socialism as a need for progress.

Commenting over the Panama leaks issue, Ghinwa said that it was just an exploitation of innocent and poor citizens of Pakistan, as mostly the mainstream politicians of all major political parties have their assets and accounts in foreign countries. “Panama leaks is a drama and Imran Khan is the chief actor while ruling Sharifs and PPP leadership are also part of it.”

“Everyone knows that Sharifs are corrupt so the media should highlight the basic issues and needs of the poor despite discussing the Panama leaks,” she said, adding that all politicians, including Faryal Talpur, should be held accountable.

She opposed Kalabagh Dam, existing irrigation system and distribution of water among the provinces, saying that the United States and the World Bank were real owners of it and they would never think or make policies and projects in favour of Pakistanis. She said she had never lost elections but was defeated by the establishment, as they had a “fear of socialist revolution in the country, which is no doubt against the existing capitalist system and the privileged people of Pakistan”.

Ghinwa claimed that no party but the PPP Shaheed Bhutto had a clear ideology of economic system through the socialism in its manifesto, as they strong believe that all problems of Pakistan could only solved through socialist revolution.

She termed the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) not an ideology-based party but only a ‘tsunami’.

When asked if she will ever introduce her son Junior Bhutto, who is grandson of Zufliqar Ali Bhutto, against Bilawal Bhutto in practical politics, she said the nation should come out of personality politics.
